were damaged when an empty tanker ship sideswiped the bay bridge. tomorrow crews will begin replacing the damaged fender sections, which are made of steel and recycled plastic. the fenders were damaged when the 752-foot overseas reymar hit the western-span tower closest to yerba buena island on january 7. caltrans says the fender system absorbed the impact and there was no structural damage to the bridge. the repairs will cost about $3 million and will take about four and a half months. >> talks are underway of tearing down the stub end of 280 in san francisco. mayor ed lee is talking about it with hopes of creating a new neighborhood and speeding up the arrival of high-speed rail service downtown. the idea is to knock down i-280 before 16th street - eliminating the ramps both at sixth and brannan streets and at fourth and king streets.

emmatop stories we are following >> on this monday morning. the 49ers are going to the super bowl after defeating the atlanta falcons. 28 to 24. they will now face the baltimore ravens. and it's also a big day for president obama as he prepares to celebrate his inauguration day. >> a big game in football yesterday as the niners faced off against the atlanta falcons at the georgia dome yesterday. the niners did not get off on the right foot. rebounding from a 17 to zero deficit to beat the atlanta falcons 28 to 24 in the n-f-c championship game yesterday. this will be the first super bowl appearance for the niners since 1995.

witnesses say a falcons fan punched a 49ers fan, who in turn pulled a knife and either cut or stabbed the falcons fan in the neck. this is video of medics treating the victim. no word on his condition. >> a young girl was sexually assaulted in san francisco's upper mission district.while rowdy 49ers fans take to the street to celebrate after the big game. thi is video of the suspect in handcuffs for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor. >> we found a situation that involved two large groups of people. positively identify the suspect. this all happened when

also no problems for the transit, bart or the east brae.the stra the east bay, no problemsone man was killed and another was hospitalized after a shooting in san francisco's crocker amazon neighborhood this according to police. shots were fired in the 11-hundred block of naples street around midnight this morning. when officers arrived at the scene, they found two men suffering from gunshot wounds. one of the victims was pronounced dead at the scene. the other was transported to a hospital to be treated for multiple wounds to the upper body. the extent of his injuries is unknown, according to police. no suspect information was immediately available, and investigation. >> police are looking for a

gunman who shot and killed a 26-year-old man as he drove near fillmore and geary streets in san francisco saturday evening. police say the man was shot when the gunman fired at him multiple times around 5:30. after the shooting, the victim's car crashed into a parked car, while the gunman ran to a white or silver vehicle and fled. the victim died after being taken to a hospital. this marks the city's second homicide of the year. >> a san francisco fire fighter is recovering this morning after he was injured battling a two-alarm fire in san francisco's richmond district. the police department says an apartment building broke out in flames just after 9- 45. police say some people who live close by have been evacuated from their homes. police say the building was fully engulfed when they arrived. but that the fire department knocked the flames out quickly. the cause of the fire is under investigation. police are now saying that the man shot to death in front of a san leandro bart

station over the weekend may have been an innocent bystander. the shooting happened just after noon saturday at a bus stop outside the bayfair bart station. bart police say it happened after two groups of people got into an argument started firing at each other. at least one of the bullets fatally hit a 50 year old man, who police believe wasn't involved. a woman was also injuredshe has been treated and released from the hospital. one possible suspect has been taken into custody.and the search is on for the others. >> the hayward girl who has been missing for three days is safe and back at home. 13-year-old delicia moreno's mother jessica avila said her daughter came home last night. delicia went missing thursday morning after dropping off her younger sister. the girl's mother said delicia was reportedly at her friend's place. who that friend was or why

delicia left is still unclear but the mother says she did leave willingly. fremont two people suffered major injuries this afternoon when a vehicle struck a tree at ardenwood boulevard and kaiser drive, according to fremont police. the vehicle was traveling south on ardenwood around 3:56 p.m. when it lost control and collided with a large tree southwest kaiser, police said. side door area, causing major damage to the vehicle and major injuries for both the driver and the sole passenger,the driver was taken to a injuries, and has yet to be positively identified. the >> authorities say a u-c davis researcher who was injured in an explosion at a campus apartment thursday has been arrested. u-c davis police say 32- year-old david snyder was arrested saturday on suspicion of possessing an explosive, possessing materials with the intent to make a destructive device and possessing firearms on campus. snyder suffered hand injuries in the blast which caused only minor damage to his apartment, but forced
